New Publication on the Integrated Sustainability Assessment of Brownfield Regeneration
Blue Synergy is pleased to announce the publication of new research exploring an integrated approach to assessing the sustainability of brownfield regeneration strategies.
The publication, co-authored by our Sustainability Engineer, Patricio Cano Santana, presents a comprehensive sustainability assessment framework combining Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), Life Cycle Costing (LCC), Net Present Value (NPV), Social Life Cycle Assessment (S-LCA) and Social Return on Investment (SROI). By integrating environmental, economic and social perspectives, the study provides a holistic understanding of the potential impacts and benefits associated with brownfield restoration.
Developed within the BIOSYSMO Project, the research focuses on the regeneration of a brownfield in Vieux-Charmont, France. The study explores the potential of phyto-management approaches and circular soil-management strategies to support the sustainable restoration of contaminated sites, while assessing different technological and management pathways from a life cycle perspective.
The research highlights the importance of considering sustainability dimensions together when evaluating remediation and regeneration strategies. The integrated methodology supports a broader assessment of environmental impacts, economic performance and potential social value, providing evidence to inform decision-making and the future development of more sustainable brownfield management practices.
This publication represents an important collaborative effort, made possible through the contributions of Michel Chalot PhD and Humberto Castillo-Gonzalez PhD from Université Marie et Louis Pasteur, together with Blue Synergy’s General & Operations Director, German Cavero Lopez, and all participating co-authors.
